Israel’s women’s épée fencing team claimed a prestigious bronze medal Sunday at the Under-23 European Fencing Championships, adding to the delegation’s achievements.
The fencers showed determination and resilience, particularly after the controversy the night before, when Switzerland’s team refused to honor the Israeli national anthem and turned their backs on the Israeli flag. Representing Israel were female fencers Mihal Shokurov, Viki Ossipov, Tamara Lando and Yuval Yizhaki.

Although they fell to Hungary 45-34 in the semifinals, the team bounced back in the bronze medal match, defeating Sweden 45-43 in a dramatic finish. The team is coached by Alexander Ivanov, alongside Maria Mazina, Doron Levit and Ohad Balva.
